Lulu, Chu, Mommy, Grandma and Amanda — Lulu’s 16-year-old family friend from New Jersey — today spent the afternoon at Wannado City in the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise.

It’s an indoor role-playing amusement center where kids can, well, “do what they wanna do.” Not too hard to figure that one out.

Essentially, children between the ages of two and 14 participate in different careers and other lifelike activities. Sometimes too lifelike — Lulu and Mommy were in the bank when Willy Wonka got locked in the vault.

Let’s just say Lulu wasn’t too thrilled with all the craziness that ensued. All she wanted was her money … not the panic and tears.

Anyway, here are just some of the things that Lulu got to do at Wannado (she will provide the descriptions below and daddy will type them in):

One of the many childhood perks of living in Florida — aside from free balloons at Publix and no heavy-duty winter gear — is going to the beach.

Mommy and Daddy sometimes take Lulu and Chu to the Boynton Beach. We don’t like the nearby Lantana Beach very much because it is often overcrowded, the ocean floor is treacherous and it requires an unnecessary trip to the parking meter if we stay longer than four hours.

Lulu is beginning to enjoy these trips more and more. When she was younger the sand used to get in her flips and she would freak out. Now she likes to collect shells by the seaside and build sand “fingies” (slang for “thingies).

Chu, on the other hand, has perma-frown from the glaring sun (see above) so he prefers to relax under the umbrella with an afternoon siesta.

Like father like son.

Lulu and Chu enjoy a relaxing Florida spring day, dipping their toes into Tio’s pool after cousin AJ’s first communion party:

Lulu turns three …

… and, sadly, there’s not much to celebrate. She wasn’t feeling so good:

Fortunately, she recovers just in time for her zoo party a few days later.

Let’s just hope Chu and his cousin AJ get to enjoy this experience again in their lifetimes when the pair is old enough to get drunk together and forget everything that happened.

What was the score again?

Lulu is pretty …

… just saying:

Pineapple (her favorite) doesn’t fall too far from the pineapple tree, does it?

Chu started the week off with a crash, doing his best D.B. Cooper impersonation off the side of mom and dad’s bed.

Not surprisingly his parachute did not open.

It could have been worse. In fact, it’s safe to say that mom and dad were more rattled than the aspiring base jumper — the elevated bed is a good distance from the carpeted floor.

He is not boo-boo-less, however.

The fading shiner that is visible on the side of his head is leftover from a previous encounter with our tile floor. Chu is becoming more mobile, inquisitive and daring with each passing day.

Time to get the boy a helmet.

This is Lulu and Chu:

Lulu and Chu are adorable siblings who are little more than two years apart in age.

Lulu is daddy-slang for Lucia, which is Ava’s middle name that was given to her in memory of her paternal great “Nonna.” Chu is a nickname for Jesus, which is Dylan’s middle name that was given to him in memory of his maternal grandfather.

We (their parents) hope to use this space and chronicle their childhood adventures and milestones as the pair grows older together.

Wish us luck.
